Sunday 19th October, West Herts hosted the Junior League Finals Day.
16 clubs started off the season in 4 pools of 4 clubs, playing home and away fixtures in their respective pools. The top team in each pool qualified for the 2-legged semi finals, with the winning semi finalists progressing to contest the VER Shield and the losing semi finalists competing for the VER Plate.
This year, Bishop’s Stortford and Knebworth made it through to the showcase Shield final, with Enfield and Cainhoe Wood vying for the Plate.
Unfortunately the weather didn’t play ball and as the first matches made their way to the 1st tee, the heavens started to open and the rain fell steadily all afternoon.
The format for the final sees teams of 7 juniors contest x3 Singles matchplay matches and x2 Greensomes.
Both Finals ended up being somewhat one sided. In the VER Plate, Cainhoe Wood went undefeated in all matches, securing 4 wins and a half for a resounding 4.5 – 0.5 win, although all matches reached at least the 17th hole.
The VER Shield wasn’t much closer, with Bishop’s Stortford winning all the Singles matches and sharing the spoils in the Greensomes with one win apiece for an overall 4-1 victory.
There was great camaraderie amongst all the players, organisers and spectators and all the matches were played in great spirit.
