The County Men’s Foursomes Championship event was played last weekend (Sunday 20th September), played at Harpenden Common GC, with 39 pairs/78 players taking part from across the county.
The home pairs would have started the day as the likely hot favourites around their home course, known for subtle and quick putting surfaces.
However, Mens 1st Team Captain Laurie Owen and his partner on the day James Andrews had different ideas! They posted an excellent score of 141 across the day, +1, with a best of the day pm round of 68 -2 to win by 5 shots from their nearest rivals and playing partners on the day, Tom Turner and Tony Wilkins of the home club in 2nd, with The Hertfordshire’s Steve Standing, fresh off his winning exploits in the Senior Mens Home International matches for England, paired with Ryan Massetti in 3rd, separated only by an afternoon countback after tying on 146 +6 for the day.
Our hosts did however pick up the Peggy Harkett Trophy for the best team score when they comfortably won the event with a score of +14 across the day and an excellent pm total of -1.
Our thanks to Harpenden Common GC for allowing us use of their course and facilities for the day, and in doing so denying their members access to the course on a weekend day in the playing season.
