A full compliment of 6 Hertfordshire County Champions took part in the recent England Golf Champion of Champions events, taking place at the home of EG, Woodhall Spa Golf Club.
The Womens, Girls & Senior Womens events were played on the Bracken course over the weekend of 5-6 September, and then the Mens, Boys and Senior Mens events were played on the Hotchkin course over the weekend of 12-13 September.
Our representatives in the female events were Haley Yerxa of Bishop’s Stortford in the Womens, Amelia Parker of Letchworth in the Girls and Janet Proudfoot of Ashridge in the Senior Womens. Haley Yerxa had the best finish with an extremely creditable tie for 3rd on +10 for 36 holes, 4 shots behind winner Lexi Dart of Sussex. 14 year old Amelia Parker finished in a tie for 8th place in the Girls event and Janet Proudfoot finished 14th in the Senior Womens.
Our star performer over the two weekends was Rio Saigal of Moor Park, our current Mens County Champion, who narrowly missed out on the Mens title in a sudden death play off after tying with an excellent 36 hole score of -6 with both eventual winner Zac Mudford of Dorset and Sam Done of Lincolnshire. Mudford would win the title with a birdie on the 2nd extra hole of the sudden death play off.
In the Boys event 14 year old Jack Wilkins of Harpenden Common struggled on the day but gained a lot of valuable experience for the future with his tie for 28th place. Simon Kay of Ashridge finished in a tie for 22nd on +12.
