Womens Seniors Flock together at Chigwell

Essex Womens Seniors 3 - 3 Herts Womens Seniors at Chigwell, Essex

Report from County Womens Seniors Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray

The first Women’s Senior match of the 2025 East Region campaign was played at Chigwell GC on Wednesday 11th June.  In this league six players play individual matches off scratch and two points are awarded for a win and one for a draw.

Chigwell is the home of Lord Sugar, the late Bobby Moore and of course, Sharon, Tracey & Dorien from Birds of a Feather.  It is also the setting for Chigwell Golf Club one of those gorgeous green oases tucked amongst a suburban setting that north London is really good at.  It was in super condition due to the fairway watering system and apparently the greens were pretty darn tricky.

The match was nip and tuck getting to the 16th tee with Herts up in three matches and Essex having already got the first result on the board. It’s a course that the Essex team know really well so home advantage could have been the Hert’s undoing.  But no, the players dug in and a magnificent nine wood on to the 18th green from the last player on the course, Suzanne Thrower, cemented her win and therefore an overall draw.

Well done to the team – Jackie, Charlie, Sandra, Suzanne & Sue plus reserve Holly.
