Our 2026 Junior League came to a conclusion on Sunday 18th October, as Letchworth Golf Club hosted the Junior League VER Shield and Plate Finals Day.
16 clubs started off the season in 4 pools of 4 clubs, playing home and away fixtures in their respective pools. The top team in each pool qualified for the 2-legged semi finals, with the winning semi finalists progressing to contest the VER Shield and the losing semi finalists competing for the VER Plate.
This year, Essendon and The Hertfordshire made it through to the showcase Shield final, with Bishop’s Stortford and West Herts vying for the Plate.
Unfortunately the weather didn’t play ball as rain fell most of the afternoon and the temperature dropped, however, they were all able to finish their matches, which looked in doubt at times.
The format for the final sees teams of 7 juniors contest x3 Singles and x2 Greensomes Matchplay matches.
The VER Plate ended up being somewhat one sided, Bishop’s Stortford securing 4-1 victory against West Herts, who were not helped by being a player down before they started, resulting in a forfeited match.
The VER Shield was a little closer, with Essendon and The Hertfordshire sharing the Singles matches 1.5pts each, however gaining a win in both Greensomes secured an overall 3.5-1.5 victory for Essendon.
There was great camaraderie amongst all the players, organisers and spectators and all the matches were played in great spirit.
