The Hertfordshire Golf Club hosted the Girls County Championship on Friday 22nd August. Weather conditions of little wind and pleasant temperatures made for some great scoring, with half the field of girls playing level to their handicap or better, with particularly some of the younger up and coming girls shooting some fantastic low numbers.
In the main Girls County Championship Scratch, it was Tala Clarke of Knebworth, back from a pleasing performance at the R&A Girls Championship at Conwy in North Wales, who would take the title she last won at Harpenden in 2023.
Having got off to a slow start with bogeys at 2 & 3, she hit back with 3 birdies over the next 9 holes. Despite a mixed finish on the way in, a score of 71 was enough to secure the title by 3 shots from Amelia Parker of Letchworth’s 74. Amelia, just 13 years of age shot the round of her career so far, to back up a great performance at Girls County Match Week where she won 4 of her matches.
Even younger than Amelia, 12 years of age Abigail Fleming of The Hertfordshire would win the Girls Handicap Category, shooting a stunning nett 61 and her friend and Hertfordshire Golf Club colleague, Peyton Subohon, also 12 years of age, picking up a voucher for her wonderful nett 67, showing that there is some wonderful young talent coming through.
