Our Junior Spring Meeting took place yesterday, comprising of the Boys & Girls Spring Meeting individual events, as well as the team Junior Champion Club event.Â
70 junior players took part playing 18 holes singles stableford, with all of the boys and girls in either stand alone individual event based on gender, as well as the team Champion Club for selected players in the field. Best 2 from 3 stableford scores decided the JCC event.Â
The course at Chesfield Downs had recently had their spring greens maintenance completed, but despite the renovations provided surfaces that allowed some excellent scoring to take place. The course was in good early season condition and is well known as a well drained site due to its chalky soils.Â
As mentioned the scoring on the day was exceptional almost across the board with many very fine scores achieved. This bodes well for the season ahead for many of our Herts juniors!Â
The team event was won by the Hadley Wood team, with a score of 83 points, winning by 3 points from runners up Bishops’s Stortford on 80 points. The Hadley Wood team were made up of Saahir Chandaria, Harry Hammond and Zach Lee. Hadley Wood now progress to represent Herts Golf at the England Golf Junior Champion Club final event, to be played at the home of EG Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire in August. We wish them all the best!Â
In the individual events, Bishop’s Stortford dominated the Girls event providing all of the top 3 in the overall stableford, won by Peyton Subohon with an excellent 44 points, by 2 from clubmate Abigail Fleming on 42, and in turn 2 ahead of fellow member Flora Hadley on 40. The best scratch score in the Girls was achieved by EG Regional squad member Amelia Parker of Letchworth with 32 +4 gross. In the Boys event the scores got even higher still with 45 points needed for a podium finish! The winner was Tommy Wise of Knebworth with an incredible 47 points, 2 in front of 2nd place Grayson Gadsby of Royston on 45 and in 3rd the aforementioned Saahir Chandaria of Hadley Wood also on 45, bit pipped to 2nd on a card countback. The best scratch score was returned by Luca Lancaster of Hanbury Manor with an excellent 39 points -3 gross score. Honourable mention to Marcus Karim of East Herts who shot a gross 69 -2 for 39 points but didn’t come in the prizes – tough school!Â
Our thanks to Chesfield Downs for hosting the event and to all the parents and players.Â
NOTE- A Taylor Made MG4 56 degree sand wedge was handed in but not collected on the day. Please contact the HG office for more information.Â
