Identifying Your Ball

In stroke play, a player’s ball is deep in the rough. Without saying anything to the other players in the group and without marking its position the player rotates the ball and identifies it as the player’s ball. What is the ruling?

Answer – Rule 7.3 if a ball cannot be identified as it lies the player does not need to advise anyone before they touch or lift the ball to identify it but the spot of the ball must first be marked.
