Report by Boys U18 Manager Gerald Duddy;
After a winter coaching schedule that took us far and wide across the county, it was time to put what was worked on over the last 6 months into practice, with our opening league matches on the 2025 campaign in the SE Group Central league.
Brentwood GC in Essex was the venue for matches against the hosts, who we narrowly edged out last season to qualify for the regional final and BB&O.
Although debutant Nick Curran found the going tough in his first outing in a Herts shirt, Ben Sessions, Louie Bloxham and William Lyons all secured two wins each and were ably supported by 2025 captain Fin Rennie, who notched up a win and a halved match. Harrison Preston and Nate Warren had one win each, but lost the other on the 18th going down by 1 hole to opponents from BB&O and Essex respectively. Likewise, Luca Ibekwem, playing in the number 1 game, secured a convincing 5&4 win against Essex and fought bravely to take his match down the 18th by winning the 15th,16th and 17th holes before finally succumbing to his opponent from BB&O.
With further games scheduled against these opponents and Middlesex to come at The Inspiration Club and Verulam Golf clubs, this was a very encouraging start to the league season which, for many in the squad will be their final year in junior golf and all bodes well for a successful 2025 campaign.
