County Championships
The men’s and women’s County Championship will be played at Ashridge, with the women’s strokeplay qualifying held on Thursday May 28th and the men’s on Friday May 29th.
The Women’s Champion Club will be played as part of the County Championship. It’s for teams of 3 but only the best 2 scores count, so any club with at least 2 players in the County Championship field will automatically be considered as entered for the team event.
Last year’s winners, Bishops Stortford, went on to win the England Golf Women’s Champion Club and then compete in the European Ladies Club Trophy in Slovakia.
The Women’s Seniors Championship will be played at Ashridge on the same day as the strokeplay qualifying for the Women’s County Championship. Anyone who wants to play in both events may still do so – her morning score in the County Championship qualifying will be treated as her entry to the Seniors Championship.
Women’s Seniors Challenge
This was played for the first time last year and will be held again at Dyrham Park on Monday October 5th. It is an 18 hole handicap stableford, open to all women in the county aged 50 or over with a handicap index of 36 or less.
Girls Championship
This has been moved from its usual place in the calendar to avoid a clash with the England U16 & U14 Girls Championships at Gog Magog. It will now be played in conjunction with the Boys Championship at Old Fold Manor on July 27th. The Girls Championship remains an 18 hole event.
Scratch Leagues
Fixtures in Divisions 1 and 2 of the men’s Scratch League continue to be played over 36 holes. However, clubs are now allowed to change up to 4 players between the morning foursomes and afternoon singles. Substitutions may be made right up to the exchange of afternoon team sheets. Full details are included in the Rules for the League on the HG website.
After surveying team captains, it has been decided to discontinue the full League Finals Day for the women’s Scratch League. The play-off between the winners of the A and B leagues in Division 1 will now be played as part of HG Finals Day at Stocks on Sunday October 4th. There will be no other play-offs, with the winners of both A and B leagues in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 each being presented with a winner’s shield at the HG Volunteers Dinner in November.
At the request of the organisers, HG has assumed responsibility for the longstanding Seniors Scratch Foursomes League. This now has a dedicated page on the HG website.
