Hertfordshire Men’s 1st Team Captain and Manager, Connor O’Brien of Brocket Hall and Laurie Owen of Letchworth respectively, both won through recent Open Regional Qualifying through to Final Qualifying, played later this week – Tuesday 30th June.Â
Connor was out in the one of the very early groups at Moor Park last Monday and returned a sparkling round of 67 -5, which was the best of the day. The round included an impressive 7 birdies, 4 in an excellent inward 9 of 31.Â
Laurie was drawn to play at Gog Magog, a venue he knows very well being a greenkeeper on site! Laurie’s round of 66 -4 was good for a tie for 3rd place and the dream to play in the Open remained alive.Â
Recent County Champion Rio Saigal missed out in a play off at his home club of Moor Park as did former County player now Professional Jack Slater of Letchworth at Gog Magog after returning 68 -2.
Another former County player now Professional Rob Holden of Letchworth also qualified at Gog Magog with a round of 66 -4.
Both Connor and Laurie have been drawn to play at the testing links at Royal Cinque Ports down on the Kent coast. You can follow their progress by clicking here. We wish both all the very best of luck.Â
