Boys Under 16 Championship & Girls Autumn Meeting

William Paas of Knebworth wins Boys Under 16 Championship title, while in the Girls Autumn Meeting Alecia Ibekwem of Sandy Lodge scoops the major prizes

West Herts GC was the venue for the final competitions of the season as it hosted the Boys Under 16 Championship and the Girls Autumn meeting.

William Paas of Knebworth fired four birdies on the back nine to recover from two over at the turn and post the overall winning gross score of one-under-par 71  William’s nett score of 67 was just two back from Bishop’s Stortford’s Daniel Carlin who claimed the overall with a net 65.

Alecia Ibekwem completed the double with her gross 32 stableford points converting to net 37 points meaning the Sandy Lodge golfer walked away with both the scratch and handicap prizes.

The competitions contested by the girls over both the Spring and Autumn Meetings were also finalised on a cool but dry day. The Cunningham Salver is awarded for the best gross aggregate score and Knebworth’s Tala Clarke’s total of 70 points took first prize. Seventy points was also the winning number in the Handicap Plate with Lily Wrangle of Mid Herts the champion.  The Ann MacLaurin Trophy, awarded for the player with the lowest placed cumulative finishes at the Girls Championship, Spring and Autumn Meetings, was presented to Letchworth’s Amelia Parker.

The overall scoring generally reflected the benign conditions with Ronnie Seagroatt of Hanbury Manor taking the U16 Boys scratch prize with a 79.

Knebworth provided the winners in both the net and gross Boys U15 categories. Charlie Parker’s 66 the best handicap score while clubmate William Paas added the age group title to his overall success.

Jack Wilkins, fresh from making his debut in Harpenden Common’s Scratch League winning side, shot a gross 74 to lift the U14 title.  Jack’s two-over-par total also secured him fourth place overall. Ryan Amin’s net 68 in the same age group meant a third trophy was making the short journey to Sandy Lodge across the day.
