Our Womens Scratch League Finals event was played last Friday (18 Oct), on the New Course at Essendon Country Club, which saw the culmination of the 2024 league season with 4 finals matches being played, with the winners of each divisional pool facing off to decide the divisional champions, and in the case of the top division, our overall champions for 2024.
The Division 1 match was between East Herts A & Aldwickbury Park A. East Herts had previously been league champions in both 1995 & 1996, whereas this was unprecedented ground for Aldwickbury Park. The Division 2 match was between Berkhamsted & Old Fold Manor, the Division 3 match was between Sandy Lodge B and Verulam and the Division 4 match saw the same clubs as the Division 1 match with East Herts B taking on Aldwickbury Park B.
Several of the matches were very tight encounters indeed. In the Division 1 match, extra holes were required as the overall match was tied and the 2nd game finished after 18 holes all square. This went in the favour of East Herts on the 19th hole with a steady par to take the title. In the Division 2 match it went to the last putt in the last match with Berkhamsted piping Old Fold Manor to take the winning shield. In Division 3 a strong Sandy Lodge B team defeated Verulam 4-1 and in Division 4 Aldwickbury Park got some form of revenge on East Herts when there B team defeated their opposition.
Our thanks to Essendon for hosting and to all the competitors who took part, not only in the finals day but also throughout the season.
