Womens County Seniors Champion 2024 – Sarah Marley of Essendon

Sarah Marley of Essendon wins both the Scratch & Handicap Trophies at Welwyn Garden City GC

One of our last age related major Championship events of the season was played yesterday, Mon 7th Oct, with the Womens Seniors Championship event, played at Welwyn Garden City GC.

Some level of disruption in terms of host venue, with a late move away from planned hosts Hadley Wood to Welwyn Garden City, due to extensive course works at Hadley Wood, likely had an impact on entries this year, with a disappointing final field of 21 golfers taking part on the day. Nevertheless, the day went ahead as planned and was enjoyed by all. Even the weather played ball with a better day than orginally forecast, with only some showers experienced mid round by all.

Newly eligible Senior Sarah Marley of Essendon in particular enjoyed her day as she carried off both the main Scratch trophy and the Tatham Cup for the best Handicap score. Sarah returned an excellent score of 78 (+6), nett 73 (+1), to win both events with relative ease. In the Veterans category, Gill Winter of East Herts won the pin tray for best gross with a 87 (+15).

Our thanks to Welwyn Garden City GC for hosting, particuarly at short notice and we hope next years event is better supported.
