What a contrast for Senior Womens Team

Report from Womens Seniors Team Manager Lindsay Murray Gray;

After playing in bobble hats and multiple layers for their first match of the season, the Herts Senior Women’s team fought to keep hydrated and put enough sun screen on when playing against Oxon on Thursday 1st May.

The venue was Henley GC, which was in truly splendid condition and is such a beautiful setting for golf that one really appreciates how lucky one is to be out there.   With the fairway watering having done its job very nicely, there was also no excuses to be had about bad bounces.

Last minute team changes and some tired legs after the 36 hole East Region foursomes the day before are the excuses that are possibly permitted as, sadly the team lost 4.5 – 2.5 to a worthy Oxon team.  The first match was probably the one to watch as our international player Jackie Foster did battle with Ireland internationalist Kate Evan in a closely fought and ultimately drawn match.  Janet Proudfoot from Ashridge did not seem to have received the memo about tired legs as she romped home to a 5&3 victory.  That’s the smart way to avoid playing 54 holes in 32 hours!  Our second international player in the team, Alison Franklin from Harpenden, secured the other point.

Thanks to all of the team for playing and for the on-going support of the squad this season.  The next match will be the first in the East Region league against Essex @ Chigwell GC.
