Standing & Kay achieve Top 10 finishes in English Senior Mens Strokeplay Championship in Suffolk

Simon Kay of Ashridge (pictured above) wins 65 & over category and Steve Standing of The Hertfordshire finishes in a tie for 4th position

The English Senior Mens Strokeplay Championship took place last week at Ipswich (Purdis Heath) and Woodbridge Golf Clubs, with a very strong contingent of Herts based players in the field.

24 Herts based players started off the event in the 200+ strong field, before being whittled down to 86 players after 2 rounds with a cut on +11 leaving 7 of our players competing on the final day.

New senior golfer and former Professional Steve Standing of The Hertfordshire finished in a fine tie for 4th place, to be the highest placed Herts player at the end of the event, helped by under par rounds in both rounds 2 and 3 to significantly jump him up the leaderboard. A shot further back in a tie for 7th place was former County Seniors Captain Simon Kay of Ashridge, who did still taste success by winning the 65 & Over category by 2 from Rupert Kellogg of Sunningdale.

John Kemp of Woburn won the event for the 3rd year in succession with the only under par total of 210 – 2.
