Mill Green welcomed students from across Hertfordshire to The Mid Handicap Championship on Thursday 25th April.

What started out as a sunny morning, increasingly turned cloudier, added to a biting northerly wind meant both players and spectators having to wrap up warm.

Despite this, a sizeable field of 41 juniors, with handicaps in a range from 12.5 to 32.5 conducted themselves excellently and all getting around in very good time.

With the top 6 boys and top 3 girls going on to represent Hertfordshire in The McPartlin Trophy this September, it took some fantastic scoring of 36 points or better to make it into the boys’ selection.

Sir John Lawes’s Timo Herr secured 3rd place with 37 points, James McCann of Katherine Warrington returned a supreme 38 points for 2nd place, but it was Alfie Copeland of Monks Walk who took the top prize, mastering the quick greens with a score of 41 points.

As all their handicaps come tumbling down over the season, I’m sure we will see many of these students return to Mill Green for the Herts Schools Rose Bowl this coming October.
