Backstopping - What is it? And is it allowed?
What is “backstopping” ?
Answer – When a player leaves their ball in place on the putting green close to the hole in a position where another player, who is about to play from off the putting green could benefit if their ball struck the ball at rest.
Is it permitted?
If there is no agreement between players for this to happen then it is permitted.
However, if there is agreement between players beforehand, then each player in agreement receives the general penalty of 2 strokes.
