Mens Team finish 4th in 6 man team event in Bedfordshire

Herts Mens team finish a creditable 4th place in SEG Mens Qualifier at The Millbrook, Bedfordshire

Report from Mens Team Manager Phil Dormer;

The Men’s County 1st team visited The Millbrook Golf Club, in Bedfordshire, as hosts this year of the annual 6 man regional competition, with the winners qualifying through to the National Finals later in the year. The format is 36 medal strokeplay off scratch, with 5 out of the 6 scores counting per round towards an overall team score.

Due to recent drought conditions, the golf course was extremely fiery, particuarly onto the parched fairways, making control from the tee very difficult, even with long irons.

The team had a good mix of experience and youth playing on a day.  The scoring was tough for everyone, but all Herts players were under par at some stage of their rounds in the morning. The team overall performed very well with young Ben Sessions of Bishops Stortford continuing his good form this season shooting a R1 2 under par with the other 4 counting cards all shooting solid +2’s  to leave us in tied 5th after the morning rounds.

As the afternoon rounds started the wind got up and made scoring even more tricky. But the guys continued to play well and finished strongly to secure an overall 4th place out of 11 counties finish.

Thank you to the Staff and members of The Millbrook club and our congratulations to the winners on the day, Kent, who now go forward to represent the region in the National final.
