Report from Mens Seniors Captain Simon Kay:
The Senior Men’s County team played its first South East Group league match on Friday 16th May against Middlesex at Crews Hill Golf Club. A lovely sunny day with a moderate breeze made for pleasant playing conditions. Many of the Herts team hadn’t played there in a long time, if at all.
Middlesex with home advantage were certainly focussed, and with local knowledge we knew the match would be tough, as they had been in recent years. However, there was a determination amongst the Herts team to get the season off to a good start.
Paul Nancarrow and John Ambridge led us out and were always in control of their matches to give us a good start. This was followed by a win by Paddy Barnham and a good half from Bob Peacock, who fought back from losing the first few holes. The wins continued from Dominic Ronan, Phil Embleton, Nick Leconte, Paul Marshall and finally Jason Court.
A resounding victory of 8 ½ to 1 ½ and a clear statement of our intent for the season.
A great team performance.
