Our first golfing event of the season was played yesterday (Thu 21 March) at Mill Green GC with the playing of the Herts Schools Team Championship for the 23/24 school year.

After a thoroughly wet and miserable winter, the event was played in reasonable conditions, dry throughout with occasional sunshine and relatively mild temperatures. All in all much better than the vast majority of the previous 6 months!

A full compliment of junior golfers took part, with a total of 69 players from 26 schools, playing 18 holes stableford format, using the best 2 from 3 scores to determine the overall team winners.

The best individual score on the day was an excellent 44 points returned by Amelie Stewart of Monks Walk.

In the main team event we ended in a 3 way tie for the best score returned on the day of 72 points. In this instance the discarded 3rd card is used to resolve with the highest score being the deciding factor. The unlucky 3rd place team were Monks Walk, who were only a team of 2 players, the aformentioned Amelie Stewart (44) and Alfie Copeland (28), so effectively 0 points on the 3rd card. The runners up were Herts & Essex High A, represented by Ruby Esterbrook (38), Alice Maskell (34) and Grace Maskell (25). But the winners on the day were St Edmunds College B, represented by Alfie Akers (36), Marcus Karim (36) and Ava Gadsby (32).

The winning St Edmunds team will now progress to represent Hertfordshire at the English Schools Team Finals, played at Woodhall Spa in July, In recent years our 2nd place team on the day have also gone on to play in the final so fingers crossed for Herts & Essex A.

Our thanks to all the competing schools and players and to Mill Green for hosting us on the day.

The next Herts Schools event is our Mid Handicap Championship, again at Mill Green, on Thursday 25th April.
