County Mens Seniors narrowly lose league game away vs Essex at Romford

Match Report by Mens Seniors Team Captain Simon Kay;

Match report –League Herts Seniors v Essex (Away)

The Senior County team played its first league match of the season having had our previous match postponed due to the weather. The match was played away at Romford GC against Essex. The weather was good and whilst the course played well there was definite home advantage, including the pin positions on a few holes.

The match afforded us the opportunity to blood a few new players for their debut – Garry Cooper, Jon Earl and Paddy Barnham.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get off to the best of starts with David Scammell being our only winner in the top 5 games. Mitchell Steel, back in the team after his adventures with the a mountain in Portugal!, won his match comfortably followed by Godon Stewart. This left 3 matches on the course to salvage something. Garry Cooper took his opponent down the last but the match went to Essex. Meanwhile Simon Kay won his match, leaving Tye Carter. Tye won the 17th with a fantastic putt to win the hole, and taking the match down the last all square. Unfortunately, the last hole was halved with Essex taking the match narrowly.

The team played well on a difficult course. With the limited games this means we need help from others but all we can do is focus on winning our final 3 games with decent margins.

Finally,  thanks to Nick Davis for coming over to support and help with the match, much appreciated.
