5 of our 6 2025 Hertfordshire County Champions represented Hertfordshire Golf recently at the England Golf Champion of Champions events that took place at the home of England Golf, Woodhall Spa Golf Club, over the last 2 weekends. The female event, comprising the Women’s, Women’s Seniors & Girls events, took place on the Bracken course on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th September, and then the male event, comprising the Men’s, Men’s Seniors & Boys events, took place on the Hotchkin course on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th September. Our current Women’s Champion Zainab Jeppe of Brocket Hall was unfortunately unavailable to play, but all the other 5 players eligible took part.Â
In the female event on 6-7 September, Girls Champion Tala Clarke of Knebworth had a disappointing first round but bounced back with a good afternoon round 2 to finish in a tie for 19th place. In the Senior Women’s event, previous winner Jackie Foster of Bishop’s Stortford almost got the job done but had to settle for a tie of 2nd place 3 shots behind winner Anne Wheble of Kent.Â
In the male event last weekend, Ben Sessions of Bishop’s Stortford continued his excellent 2025 season with a strong 4th place finish in the Boys event. In the Men’s Seniors event David Lang of Hanbury Manor soared through the field in round 2 for a top 10 finish. Finally in the Men’s event, Laurie Owen of Harpenden Common despite playing through the worst of some very testing conditions at the rear of the field performed magnificently to get in a tie for the lead with one hole to play, the par 5 18th, but sadly made a double bogey to miss the play off by 2 and finish in a tie for 3rd place.Â
So all in all some excellent performances and 4 x top 10 finishes, including a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th. Close but no cigar!Â
