Report from ‘stand-in’ Womens Seniors Team Manager Karen Bond;
A team of 4 women from Hertfordshire ventured to Mill Ride Golf Club in Berkshire to join 36 other players in the 10 counties Southern Seniors stroke play team event.
The Sunday practice round went without a hitch with players finding the conditions favourable and the course bathed in sunshine.
Luckily the sunshine continued the next morning when 2 players started on the extremely difficult 10th followed by a slightly, well ok very daunting par 3 over an expanse of water. The other 2 played the course the right way round but all soon found that there was possibly a greenkeeper’s revenge with the challenging pin placements.
When the round was over there were some extremely sad faces in the clubhouse which soon came to light because of the difficulty of the course. Only 2 players managed to stay in the 70s which was testament to the difficulty that the players had faced.
Hertfordshire certainly battled well and didn’t lose face by coming 6th out of the 10 teams, beating Kent, Buckinghamshire, Middlesex and Oxfordshire. The event was won by Sussex by one point from Surrey.
Everyone is looking forward to next year’s challenge which will be hosted by Kent.
Team comprised Sandra Moses, Janet Proudfoot, Suzanne Thrower and Holly Lovell.
The sun shone for the final home match of the season against Essex held at East Herts Golf Club.
With stories of chip-ins and long putts being holed, the results for Hertfordshire aligned with the beautiful sunshine, the team working hard to secure a fabulous 4-2 win.
Next month the team head north to play Norfolk in the final match of this season.
