Brookmans Park GC – County Pearson Trophy Winners 2022/23

BROOKMANS PARK GC – 2023 COUNTY PEARSON TROPHY WINNERS

Monday 12th June Semi Finals/ Finals Day Brookmans Park Golf Club

An early start with the clubhouse opening at 7am to receive organisers and competitors alike.  The course looking beautiful and a friendly buzz in the lounge everything was set for a day of competitive golf.

The 4 semi-finalists were eager to learn the results of the draw which took place in front of a packed clubhouse. The semi-final draw thus was:

Brookmans Park v East Herts

Brickendon Grange v Hartsbourne

With thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon everyone was eager to get proceedings underway as soon as possible. The first tee time was at 8.15am and our starter, Jacquie Lowe, the Ladies Club Captain of our hosts Brookmans Park got everyone off to time.

Some very closely contested matches ensued, with Brookmans Park and Hartsbourne going through to meet each other in the final.

Brookmans Park Golf Club looked after us very well and the players were fed and watered with a substantial sandwich buffet lunch. I must send my own special thanks to Jacquie, who throughout the whole process made my life so much easier being the liaison point between the Club and myself and was there all day to ensure everything went well, thank you Jacquie.

With thunderstorms rumbling in the distance and a brief light rain descending the afternoon matches were started by Anne Mills, Chairman of the Pearson Inter County Management Committee, who kindly made the journey from Surrey with husband for the day. Anne then presented the runner up semi-finalists with their trophies and certificates.

We continued watching the weather very closely, and relieved that all matches got underway.

Thank you to referees Chris Medley and Liz Perrottet who were on hand for any rule queries and clarifications, and for recorder Alan Clarke, my long-suffering husband, for collating the current

scores back to the clubhouse.

The afternoon match was very tight, and at three all it came down to the last match which went down the 19th hole with Brookmans Park emerging as the winners in an exciting finale.

All players played extremely well and commiserations to Hartsbourne who are runners up for the 2nd year running.

Brookmans Park now, as Hertfordshire Pearson Trophy Winners, go forward to represent Hertfordshire on the 19th of July at Highgate Golf Club, and I know we all wish them well.

Finally, as I sign off as Herts Pearson Manager after 2 years in the role, I pass the reigns over to Sue Barnes of Hadley Wood GC.

I will continue to assist her as deputy for another year, so you haven’t quite got rid of me quite yet.

I’d like to thank you for your support and interactions over that time and say with the utmost sincerity it has been a real pleasure.

Good luck in the future and happy golfing.

Jane Clarke

Pearson Manager, Hertfordshire
