Report from Womens Senior Team Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray:Â
At this time of the year the fixtures come thick and fast and so it was off to Tylney Park GC in Hampshire for the Senior Women on Wednesday 23rd July. Those in the team that had travelled for the last Hants away fixture were perhaps battle scarred by the event. It was an all or nothing scenario for both teams as a win would mean they won the league and unfortunately, on the 18th green of the last match to finish, Hants did in fact win.
A slightly less positive scenario was in play this time as a win for Hants meant they would win the league before Herts had played their final game. Sadly, this was how it played. They fielded a strong team and powered to a 6 – 1 victory that was actually closer than it seems. Two of the matches were halved and another two were decided on the 18th green. The players felt that it was the extremely undulating and relatively slow-paced greens that did for them having been used to the quick pace that generally prevails on Herts courses.
All talk before the match was of the resilience of the England women’s football team and how one should emulate that mantra of never giving up. This is how the team will attack the rest of the season. Onwards and upwards.
Thanks to all of the teams for playing and congratulations again to Hants on their victory, very well played.
