Report from Senior Womens Team Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray;Â
The Herts Senior Women had a couple of matches in relatively quick succession following a short break. They played one match in each of the leagues they play in.Â
First up was a trip to The Lambourne Golf Club to play Bucks in the BBHH&O League. This was especially interesting timing as they had just had their mens’ club championship the day before so the course was set up to the highest level of difficulty as it is ever likely to be. Pin positions were pushed as far as possible and the greens were slippery. A lack of local knowledge added to the jeopardy. Alas this was too much for the away team and they lost 4.5 – 2.5 but the team did very much appreciate the gorgeous setting and the hospitality of both the Bucks and the Lambourne teams.

120 miles east of this fixture, the team then regrouped to go again against Suffolk in their second match in the East Region league. Another very hot humid day on a very different style of golf course which, like so many of the Herts courses, had been totally baked out making for interesting bounces and challenging tactical decisions pushing the team’s course management to the limit.
Before playing the team were advised to try to stay out of the rough, generally always a good strategy, however this time it was because snakes were in residence. This fact was evidenced by team manager Lindsay who came face to face with one on. She would like to point out that it was not in the rough, heaven forbid, but sunbathing on the 15th tee According to her opponent she got a little too close for comfort when taking the shot but it was worth it – see picture – what a beautiful creature.Â
Suffolk fielded an extremely strong team on the day and alas even the charms of the snake could not help Herts to overcome them as they lost 5-1.Â
Woodbridge was a stunning track and return visits are definitely on the cards when there’s a bit more grass to appreciate.
