Nick Curran of Sandy Lodge had a fantastic 3 days at Sand Moor Gold Club, Yorkshire, in the English U18 Amateur Championship.
Nick was in contention at the top of the leaderboard throughout the 72 holes. After opening with a round of 69 -2, which placed him just 2 shots behind the first round leader, Nick followed this up on day 2 with a solid 70 -1, to leave him tied as overnight leader.
With the cut coming in at +6, 43 players made it through to the final day of 36 holes.
A +1 round of 72 in round 3 kept Nick well in contention, just 2 shots off the lead and a closing round of 70 -1 for a 4 round total of 281 -3 on another day may have been enough to claim victory, but 3rd round leader, Sullivan Goddard of Thetford, was able to hold his nerve and secure a 3 shot margin of victory.
However, a runner up finish amongst such an elite field was a fabulous performance for Nick and will give him a lot of confidence going into the summer.
