Our always popular and convivial Womens Interclub Foursomes event took place on Monday of this week (Mon 15 June), played at Letchworth Golf Club.Â
20 clubs/40 pairs/80 players took part on the day, playing 18 holes foursomes medal strokeplay. Each club had 2 x pairs competing with the scores combined to create a team score in both the scratch and handicap events.Â
This event is traditionally played as an afternoon start, which this year was extremely welcome as some unexpected heavy showers fell most of the morning across Hertfordshire. Thankfully these passed through as the day progressed and the vast majority of the golf was played in bright and warm conditions.Â
The best scratch pairs score for the day was achieved by Haley Yerxa and Ruby Esterbrook of Bishops Stortford with an excellent 76 +4, both just back from representing Herts in the Womens County Match Days event in Cambs, that only finished the day prior. The best nett pairs score was a 72 level by Rhona Finch & Jeanne Linton of Harpenden.Â
The Handicap Cup for the best aggregate club nett score was won by East Herts with a cumulative +4 and were represented by Candida Wasely & Karen Bond and Sophie Brooke & Jane Reid.Â
The Interclub Cup for the best aggregate club gross score was led by the host club Letchworth until the very last groups in, when Essendon pipped the hosts for the title. The winning score by Essendon was a cumulative +21 and were represented by Sarah Marley & Riya Chandaria and Emma Barrett & Helen Constantinou.Â
The post golf afternoon tea of finger sandwiches, homemade cakes and fresh scones was a highlight for all the competitors, irrespective of their scores on the day!
