East Herts Golf Club hosted the annual playing of our Family Cup on Sunday 7th June.
A competition that pairs together a junior with an adult relative, with both being members of Hertfordshire affiliated clubs but not necessarily the same club.Â
Played in the 4 Ball Betterball Stableford format, 16 pairs took the course on a dry but windy day and with the greens fast, scoring was challenging, however, that didn’t prevent the winning score hitting the 40 points mark.
Two pairs, Chris and Alfie Akers from Brickendon Grange along with Richard and Thomas Doling of Sandy Lodge were able to return a team score of 40 points. Going to back 9 countback, they still couldn’t be separated, both coming in with excellent scores of 22 points. It took a final 6 holes countback to determine a winner, with Robert and Thomas’ 14 points pipping Christopher and Alfie’s 13 points to the title.
Played in great spirit and a relaxed format, this year saw predominantly father and son pairings. In addition to this, it would be great to see mothers, daughters and grandparents etc adding to the mix next year.Â
