Schools Rosebowl Championships 2025/26

Boy's and Girl's Overall Champions, Jaego Gardiner and Ava Gadsby
Alfie Kitteridge of Bishop's Stortford receives U16 Boys Trophy from County President Jane Walter

The 2025/26 Herts Schools Rosebowl took place on Thursday 16th October at Mill Green.

The Herts Rosebowl is our showcase School’s Championship, a scratch event which permits maximum handicaps of 12 for boys and 18 for girls to play in the tournament.

However, this year’s championship was heavily oversubscribed, with nearly 100 students wanting to play, which meant boys with handicaps 9 and above sadly got balloted out. We aim to accommodate them in our Mid Handicap Championship next spring.

A full field of 72 students took to the course to compete for 4 individual prizes. Boys and Girls overall Scratch Winners and Boys and Girls U16 Scratch Winners (ESGA Rules Year 10 and below only) .

The weather was overcast, but light winds and a decent temperature allowed for some excellent scoring and produced four worthy winners, who received their trophies from Jane Walter, our County President.

On the Girls’ side, Ava Gadsby of East Herts took the overall title, shooting a 79 to take the main trophy. One title was not enough for Ava, as her score also secured her the Girls U16 Championship.

The Boys overall winner was an extremely close fought battle. 71’s -1 were scored by James Andrews of Letchworth and Luca Ibekwem of West Herts, however it was a great score of 70 -2 by Jaego Gardiner of Porters Park who took the title and had been -4 with a handful of holes left to play.

The Boys U16 Champion went to year 10 student, Alfie Kitteridge of Bishop’s Stortford with a fine score of 75.

The Boys and Girls Year 10 and below champions are guaranteed a place at the England Schools U16 National Finals in 2026.

The top 4 Boys and top 3 Girls from the main championship now progress onto the Schools East Region Championships, date TBC in Buckinghamshire. Good luck to them all and hopefully we will see some through to the National Finals later in 2026.
