Our Mens County Foursomes Championship event was played last Sunday (21st September) and saw 30 pairs of golfers play 36 holes of scratch medal foursomes, the hardest format in golf, to determine our Foursomes Champions for the year.Â
The event was held this year at Sandy Lodge Golf Club located between Watford and Rickmansworth. The course is best described as an inland links style, that is among our very best and most testing courses in the County, particularly off the back blue tees and when the greens are firm and fast – all of which were the case for the event!Â
The weather was set fair for the day with dry, mild and sunny conditions throughout, but with some fairly gusty winds blowing across the course to provide a suitable challenge.Â
After 18 holes the junior pair of Will Lyons & Freddie Raven of Hanbury Manor held a commanding lead with an excellent score of 72 +2 against the difficult par of 70 off the blue tees. This would prove to be the best score of the day, as scores generally increased in Round 2 for most. Lyons & Raven added a steady pm round of 74 +4 for a 36 hole total of 146 +6 for the day, which would win them the title by 4 clear shots from nearest challengers Tommy Baker & Jon Sutherland of East Herts on 150 +10, rounds of 74 and 76. In 3rd were the long hitting home pair of Mens County Championship runner-up Adam Berg-Capin & junior Antoni Hawkins on 151 +11 for the day. The home club did however taste success elsewhere when they picked up the Peggy Harkett Team Trophy for the best cumulative team score, with the aforementioned Berg-Capin & Hawkins joined by James Lennon & Ryan Georgiou.Â
Our thanks to Sandy Lodge for hosting us and allowing us the use of their course and facility all day on a weekend.Â
The 2026 Mens County Foursomes will be held at Harpenden Common GC on Sunday 20th September. Â
