Reflections of a Team Manager

Women's Team Manager Aly Nedza's insightful feelings on her time away at County match Days

County Match Week brings together the six East Region Counties in what can only be described as a whirlwind!

72 hours of golf, whether playing, watching, thinking or dreaming about it….it’s golf.

Competing against players about to turn pro, off strong +handicaps, it is not only a test of golf, but also strategy, alongside mental and physical resilience.

Five sessions over 2.5 days is a full throttle experience!

This year our Herts squad had juniors as young as 14 and seniors whose age I won’t mention (as that would be rude), testing everyone at every level.

What I witnessed is every single player gave their all, leaving everything out there in pursuit of a point for their county.

Some matches were so close, the results did not represent their gusto and determination.

The support team were brilliant. Assisting with caddying, organising and realxing the squad.

The camaraderie grew with laughter, banter and great fun both on and off the course.

I was blessed with the company of the most beautiful people who played the most amazing golf and although we came 5th, if you look very closely, we came first – In laughter, life and team bond. It really is the most exhilarating experience, for which I am eternally grateful.

I was truly honoured and humbled to lead such a fantastic team of players and look forward to doing it all again June 29th – July 2nd at John O’Gaunt in 2025, where once again caddies, volunteers, spectators and ball spotters are so appreciated. Aly.
