Herts Mens Seniors Team 3 - 5 Surrey
Match report –Herts Seniors v Surrey Seniors (Home) by Captain Simon Kay
The Mens County Seniors second friendly, before the League season starts, was at home against Surrey. It was our first match played at our new home venue for ’24, West Herts, and therefore provided some much needed course information following recent bunker changes. The course was in good condition for this time of year and many of the bunker changes provided a good challenge for both sides.
Unfortunately, the weather once again was pretty poor, cold and frequent drizzle making things tough for all. The team was made up of experienced campaigners and some new team members including debutants Jason Kirby and Jon Earl.
The early matches were close but both went to Surrey. We then had strong wins from Phil Embleton, Gordon Stewart and Bob Peacock. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to gain an advantage in the other games and we lost the match 5-3.
Our next match is against Suffolk in May when I hope the weather will improve. This and some other practise rounds scheduled at West Herts will allow us to start the season fully prepared.
Thanks to Mike Ready and Robin Colbourne for their added support.
