Report from Boys U18 Manager Peter Hopkins;
The Boys U18 South East League season got underway on Sunday at The Lambourne GC with our toughest match of the season against the home County, BB&O and our strongest opponents, Essex. We went to the match with a keen but very inexperienced team, with all 8 players making their debuts for the County league team.
Captain for the day, Josh Robinson, faced 2 extremely experienced and skilled opponents, and despite playing some excellent golf, lost both of his matches. Daniel Colkett played some very high quality golf, beating his BB&O opponent 5&3 but unfortunately lost on the 18th vs Essex. Frankie Gilder was beaten by both of his opponents but gained invaluable experience for the future, as did Euan Hardie and Eddie Cook, the latter’s play on the Par 5 12th showing the quality of his opposition as his birdie lost the hole as both opponents achieved eagle 3’s.
Jaego Gardiner was the star performer on the day winning both of his matches 3&1 on the 17th with an excellent birdie 2! Ethan Vater won vs BB&O 6&4 and lost on the 18th vs Essex and Aman Shah won vs BB&O on the 18th but lost against his much more experienced opponent from Essex 4&3.
Thanks to all players who played some great golf and represented the County with pride. All enjoyed playing a course in excellent condition with firm and true greens and we look forward to the remainder of the season.
