2018 Hertfordshire Golf Academy Cup

2018 Hertfordshire Golf Academy Cup

THE WINNING SQUAD – CHRIS DRANE’S BOY’S BREAKING 90 GROUP

The Hertfordshire Golf Academy Cup took place at Essendon GC on Tuesday 29 May.  The event is now in its the 3rd year and continues to grow with 71 players representing the 8 Hertfordshire academy squads taking part.

The weather forecast had improved considerably and we were looking forward to a cooler but dry day.  It was not to be……!!  The rain started as the youngest players were teeing off and less than an hour later the klaxon sounded as thunder & lightening and torrential rain swept across the course.

Only the first group managed to complete 18 holes however thanks to the hard work and ingenuity of our scorers, Mark Knight and Genny Hill, we were able to record scores for most players and identify the winning team.

Yet again it was Lead Coach Chris Drane who won the trophy – this time with his Boys Breaking 90 squad.  In 2nd place and only 0.1 points behind was Jo Oliver’s Girls Breaking 90 squad – so close…!!

There was some very impressive golf from many of the players on a tough course and in very difficult conditions.  Equally impressive was the great team spirit and good humour as everyone attempted to dry off after making their way back to the clubhouse.

Huge thanks to Essendon GC for hosting this event and for feeding everyone in record time, to all the parents for responding so well to the earlier pick up time and to the players and their coaches for making this such a great event.  Already looking forward to next year.
