1st Team Finish Season in Style
12th HOLE AT WEST HERTS GC
The final fixture of the 2014 1st team season saw Hertfordshire defeat BB&O 6.5-5.5 at a wonderfully presented West Herts Golf Club.
The morning foursomes were very tight with three of the matches going to the eighteenth green. Alex Collman and Luke Groves and Alex Macarthur with Laurie Owen both secured half’s, before Lewis Watcham and Chris Edwards finally got the better of their opponents with a one hole victory which left honours even.
The singles started poorly with two early defeats, before victories for Alex Macarthur 3&1 and Laurie Owen 4&3 brought the match back to all square. George Welsh fought back from 4 down after ten to snatch a half on the last green and the following Chris Edwards 4&3 victory gave Hertfordshire a slight advantage. With the loss of the penultimate match it was left to the experienced Lewis Watcham, who having been two down with five to play won his match on the last green by 2 holes.
The result leaves Hertfordshire as Runners Up in the South East Group North league with a record of won 3 and lost 1, the narrow defeat away to league winners Essex making all the difference.
Overall the season has been positive for the County Team.
