Womens Seniors Champion 2025 – Jackie Foster of Bishop’s Stortford GC

Our Womens Seniors Championship was played at Berkhamsted Golf Club last Friday (30th May), for the first time on the same day as the Womens County Championship strokeplay qualifying rounds. Players could compete in both events and in that case their Round 1 morning score would be their counting score towards the stand alone Seniors event, or they could just take part in the 18 hole Seniors Championship event, with tee times in front of the Round 2 players in the main Womens Championship. 

The conditions on the day were excellent, the blustery conditions from the previous days Mens County Championship strokeplay rounds had gratefully passed through, leaving a warm and generally benign day for the Women to battle the course in. The course conditions were first class with the greens in particular very smooth and with a good pace. 

England Senior International Jackie Foster of Bishop’s Stortford has dominated this event since turning 50 years of age, but had not won the event since 2022 after not competing in the 2023 event due to be being away on England duty and narrowly losing out to Sarah Marley of Essendon last year at Welwyn Gardem City GC. Jackie would put that right this year with a superb round of gross 72 -1, to win the Championship 6 shots from nearest rival defending Champion Sarah Marley on 78 +5, with Janine Cicchirillo of Essendon in 3rd on 79 +6. 

In the nett competition for the Tatham Cup Breda Franzmann of Hadley Wood had the round of her life and would take the title with a terrific nett score of 66 -7. Breda would also win the Veterans Trophy for the best gross score in the Veterans category with a gross 81 +8. 

The feedback on the day from the competitors was positive over the move to combine the events, in the main due to the better weather, playing conditions and course conditions from playing the event in late May rather than early October as it had traditionally been. 

Jackie will now proceed to represent Hertfordshire at the England Golf Senior Womens Champion of Champions event, played at Woodhall Spa in September, an event that Jackie is a previous winner of.
