The player has taken free relief for his ball which was on the path. When he takes his shot, although the ball is no longer on the path, he is standing on the path. He goes ahead and plays the shot, is there a penalty?
ANSWER – YES – Two strokes in stroke play and loss of hole in match play. When taking relief from a cart path, you must find the nearest point of complete relief. This means the cart path no longer interferes with your stance, swing, or lie of the ball. If you stand on the cart path after taking relief and play your shot you are playing from the wrong place.
