Boys Under 16s Come Up Short

Boys U16's Team defeat Bedfordshire and draw to BB&O in South East Group League match at East Berkshire

Report from Boys Under 16 Manager Graham Oram;

The boys under 16’s showed their strength in depth last Sunday when they came agonisingly close to securing a chance of reaching the South East Group Finals.

Having lost their previous match, when at full strength, to BB&O by 5 ½ – 2 ½ points the chances did not look good of success against the same opposition, particularly with 5 enforced changes to the team. Having said that the boys brought into the team all displayed the required “never say die” attitude demanded from the coach Matt Spencer.

The team dispatched, with relative ease, their opponents from Bedfordshire winning with a 7-1 scoreline, but BB& O were always going to be a far tougher task. 4 wins came at the top of the order with both River Gardiner & Jamie Jackson securing their victory on the 18th  green. Jaego Gardiner, playing at number one secured, a 3& 2 victory and the in form Alex Coombs-Brown won on the 13th hole. Unfortunately, try as they may, the team  couldn’t quite get the half point needed for victory from the remaining matches. The four debutants, in under 16’s league matches, namely Freddie Raven, Jack Sedgwick Daniel Hobbs and 14 year old George Lancaster fought desperately hard but in the end, we had to settle for a   4 – 4 draw.
