Girls County Champion 2026 – Amelia Parker of Letchworth

Our County Girls Championship was played yesterday (Mon 27 July) at Old Fold Manor GC, in different circumstances than in a normal year. 

The Girls Championship in recent years has been played as an 18 hole medal, played in August in conjunction with the Boys Under 14s Championship. However this year, potential scheduling issues meant a move was required to avoid a major clash, and the main Girls Championship was instead played alongside the main County Boys Championship in late July, albeit with the Boys playing 36 holes and the Girls playing 18 holes. 

15 girl golfers took part, joining a further 57 boys in the morning round. 

A fine bright and warm day gave good playing conditions for the competitors, albeit that the long hot summer has made all the courses in Southern England rather dry and fast running. A decent strength breeze across the day kept temperatures marginally cooler. 

Our Champion on the day was Amelia Parker of Letchworth who returned a gross score of 83 +12 to win by 3 shots from nearest rival Abigail Fleming of Bishop’s Stortford on 86 +15. In the nett competition Mira Pasura of Moor Park won the main prize with a score of nett 70 -2 by 1 shot from Jade Wimalarathna of Sandy Lodge on 71 -1. 

The event was kindly supported by GX Gloves, who provided all the competitors with a free glove prior to teeing off and also provided an additional voucher prize for the scratch winner.

Amelia now progresses to represent Hertfordshire at the  England Golf Girls Champion of Champions, played at Woodhall Spa in September.
