Report from Womens Seniors Team Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray;
The Women’s Senior team had a fabulous day on the Suffolk coast at Felixstowe Ferry GC courtesy of an away match in the East Region League. The venue for the recent County Match Week provided the opportunity for the team to play some links golf in conditions that the professional men would have lapped up in Troon last month – sunshine and a predictable two club south easterly breeze.
A slew of team changes provided a slightly stressful start to the week however the players that finally made the journey thoroughly enjoyed the course and the hospitality of the away team. The views of the beach and the holidaymakers added to the enjoyment, and the request for more coastal golf whenever possible. It was however suggested that we may not be saying that if the fixture had to be played in January!
It was a tight match with three out of six matches going to the 18th hole. Course knowledge was a really big factor in the closing holes and club selection in the growing ‘breeze’ became even trickier. Sadly, only one of these matches fell in our favour which meant the team lost 4 -2 overall.
Thank you to all of the team for playing, pictured below, especially the last-minute reserves and those waiting in the wings for the 7am call.
