Pictured above is the victorious Berkhamsted team of L to R, Jason Court, Kevin Ratcliffe and Gordon Stewart.
Our popular Mens Senior Champion Club event was played on Tuesday of this week (21st May), where a full field of 72 players/24 clubs took part in the 18 hole strokeplay medal to ascertain our Senior Champion Club. 3 male senior (55 years old or over) players per team with all scores to count. Nowhere to hide!!
After a (rare) period of decent weather of late, the conditions on the day were decidedly cool, with thick cloud cover all day and rain for the later starters towards the end of their rounds. Thankfully the heavy rain really fell on the way home for the competitors and officials.
The course was presented extremely well, with the thick semi rough and firm greens providing a stern challenge on the day.
The best score on the day was achieved by Gordon Stewart of Berkhamsted with an excellent round of 71 (+1).
The Berkhamsted team of the aforementioned Stewart with Jason Court and Kevin Ratcliffe re-gained their title after losing last year to The Melbourne Club at Stocks last May. Berkhamsted’s score of 222 (+12) was good enough by 6 shots to win from nearest rivals Bishops Stortford in 2nd and a further 3 shots behind in 3rd were Letchworth.
Congratulations to Berkhamsted and our thanks to Harpenden GC for allowing us the use of their facilities on the day and for looking after us, particuarly with the superb carvery lunch, on the day.
