Report from Captain Simon Kay;

The County Seniors 2nd friendly of the season was held at Ashridge GC against their Scratch team yesterday (Apr 16). The match was played as fourballs on a day that on sensed was the start of Spring. The course was in excellent condition with manicured fast greens. However, the course was playing long off the black tees but this didn’t deter the older team!

This fixture started post COVID and this time the Senior team reversed the loss from 2022 with a hard fought 3-1 victory.

The team was led out by Mark Gershinson and David Lang who had a keen battle against Ashridge’s lead pair. However a birdie on the 7th (16th in match) by Mark, followed by a given birdie for David on the Par 3 8th (17th in match) meant a 2 up victory. Gordon Stewart and Graham Williams were too strong for their opponents winning their match 4/3. This left Michael Charles and Bob Peacock to get a result and win the match. The match was all square after 16 holes but Bob held a great 15 foot putt on the penultimate 8th hole for a win and Michael cosied his birdie putt on the 9th to a few inches to secure the match.

Thanks for everyone who played as we move onto our next friendly at Suffolk.
