Report from Mens Seniors Captain Simon Kay:Â
The Senior Men’s County team played its first South East Group league match on Friday 16th May against Middlesex at Crews Hill Golf Club. A lovely sunny day with a moderate breeze made for pleasant playing conditions. Many of the Herts team hadn’t played there in a long time, if at all. Â
Middlesex with home advantage were certainly focussed, and with local knowledge we knew the match would be tough, as they had been in recent years. However, there was a determination amongst the Herts team to get the season off to a good start.
Paul Nancarrow and John Ambridge led us out and were always in control of their matches to give us a good start. This was followed by a win by Paddy Barnham and a good half from Bob Peacock, who fought back from losing the first few holes. The wins continued from Dominic Ronan, Phil Embleton, Nick Leconte, Paul Marshall and finally Jason Court.
A resounding victory of 8 ½ to 1 ½ and a clear statement of our intent for the season. Â
A great team performance.
