What is Girls Golf Rocks?
Girls Golf Rocks encourages beginner girls aged 5 – 18 to learn and play golf in a fun and friendly way. The programme runs nationwide.
Clubs in each county will deliver girls-only coaching sessions with the emphasis on the fun, social and friendship aspects of golf, rather than just the coaching and playing side. The programme aims to create an environment where girls feel comfortable and confident to participate and the centres offer a clear pathway for them to continue their participation.
How do I register?
Registration is simple and easy. When registration opens just click on the name of your county to see the clubs taking part. Follow the registration links and pay online. Each centre will be offering 2 blocks of coaching courses from May to October inclusive so there is plenty of opportunities to get involved.
What should I wear at a Girls Golf Rocks session?
You can wear what you like if it’s comfy and keeps you warm or cool depending on the weather! Trainers are fine for footwear.
What else do I need to bring to a session?
Remember to bring a bottle of squash or water, especially if the weather is hot because you will be outside. If you have your own equipment please bring this along with you. Equipment will be provided if needed and if you sign up to the six-week coaching course after the taster session you will receive a goody bag to help you continue your golfing journey.
How much will the sessions cost?
The taster session is free. The six-week coaching course is £35. You will need to pay this via the online booking process before the first session. Please note, no payment will be taken on the day of the session. The online payment will secure your place on the programme on a first come, first served basis.
How long will the taster session be?
The taster session will run for two hours. This is a great chance to see if you enjoy golf before signing up to the six-week coaching course.
Do I need to attend a taster session before booking onto the six-week course?
You don’t need to attend the taster session, but you do need to book online to secure your place.
How long will the coaching course be?
The coaching course will be weekly one-hour sessions over six weeks. The last session will be out on the course. The sessions will be:
FUN!
Team/group-based activity
Varied to include a taste of all aspects of golf
Include social time either at the beginning or end (or both)
What time do you arrive for the sessions?
Please arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the stated time on the online booking.
Will photos be taken at the sessions?
Photographs may be taken for promotional purposes. Your coach will ask your permission and ask you to sign a consent form before any photos are taken.
Who will be delivering the programme?
It is recommended that all clubs taking part in Girls Golf Rocks have England Golf’s SafeGolf accreditation. Each club has also been reviewed against criteria which England Golf and The Golf Foundation deem necessary for their selection. They also have to meet the following conditions:
- PGA Professional has a current PGA DBS and has attended a Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop within the last three years
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children policies and procedures have been adopted and reviewed within the last three years
- Club Welfare Officer appointed and has attended a Safeguarding Protecting Children workshop within the last three years
- Club and county girls will be recruited as Girls Golf Rocks ambassadors, acting as role models to inspire new girls players and support their continued participation.
What happens after the programme?
The formal Girls Golf Rocks programme will last for seven weeks and will include the taster and coaching course. Each centre will operate in different ways and may offer additional coaching and the chance to join as a member. Speak to the Professional leading the programme to find out what’s on offer. There is no obligation to commit to these extras and there may be additional costs if you choose to participate in further programmes.
