Our County Fourball Championship event was played on Monday 15th April, kindly hosted by Stocks Golf Club, our most westerly outpost in the County.
31 pairs of golfers from all over the County of both males and females took part on a decidedly freakish day of weather, with the competitors experiencing pretty much all four seasons in the one round of golf! The conditions got so bad at one point, with an extremely strong wind mixed with rain and even hail at points, that the referees called a suspension of play that lasted approximately an hour before play resumed.
Despite the conditions, the course was playing well even in this early growth period for the courses, with the ground nice and firm and the greens putting well.
The course was enjoyed by defending champions Stuart Edwards & Dan Baldock of Welwyn Garden City GC, who retained their title with an excellent score of 42 points to win by 1 from nearest rivals Salvatore Colella & Stavros Constantanidies from The Hertfordshire on 41. Final podium position was taken by Robert Camilleri & Dave Miles of Rickmansworth with 40 points. The best all female pair was Norah Crammond & Marta Thomas from the home club on 39 points.
