EAST ANGLIA DOUBLE FOR UNDER 16’s
A long journey into the far reaches of East Anglia was a worthwhile exercise for the victorious under 16’s and a big “thank you” as always goes to the parents, some of whom had a 250 mile round trip!!!
The fairways at the host club Bungay and Waveny Valley were parched, the wind blew, but fortunately the sun shone. A 7 ½ – ½ success was recorded over Norfolk with a slightly closer 5-3 victory over Suffolk going on the score sheet.
Wins in both matches were achieved by Billy Paas (Knebworth), Ollie Bannister (Bishop’s Stortford), Ronnie Seagroatt (Hanbury Manor) together with an amazing performance from our number one player George Lancaster, who hails from Sandy Lodge. George stormed to a 7 & 6 victory over his counterpart from Norfolk before closing out his match against Suffolk on the 16th green. Wins against Norfolk were also obtained by Louis Batrick-Wren (Bishop’s Stortford) and Marcus Atherton (Welwyn Garden City).
Young Marcus Karim (East Herts), who is only 11 years old, defeated his opponent from Norfolk 2 & 1 and were it not for tree trouble on the 18th, he would have recorded two victories, ultimately settling for a half against Suffolk.
Our Captain River Gardiner was having a titanic struggle against both his Norfolk & Suffolk opponents, but his never-say-die attitude enabled him to record a half in both matches.
Two super results by the under 16’s, which will need to be repeated if the team is to reach the Regional Final in September.
