Our Womens De Paula Cup event, a singles matchplay knockout competition, was completed yesterday, Mon 21 Oct, with the final taking place at East Herts GC.
The match would have been played some 2 weeks prior as part of the County Finals Day event, but amazingly both finalists in the De Paula Cup were already involved in the Finals Day as opponents in the Womens Fourball Betterball KO final.
The final match was played in dry but autumnal conditions, with falling leaves causing issues with locating even slightly errant shot. Simmi took a lead early on and led by 3 up by the 13th hole. Hilary, recieving 7 shots in the match, rallied and despite losing a ball not far off the 15th green to lose the par 3 hole, won the 16th hole to take the match to the 17th, but Simmi prevailed by the margin of 2&1. This provided some level of ‘revenge’ for Simmi after Hilary and partner Janet Lansdowne had defeated Simmi & her partner Lak Perera in the Womens Fourball KO final on the last green.
This victory tops a great year for Simmi as it follows another County win for Simmi, when last month Simmi partnered by David Jackson won the County Mixed Foursomes Championship played at Hanbury Manor.
