Under 16 Boys fall short at Pinner Hill

County U16 Boys defeat Middlesex but lose to BB&O in Regional League matches

Report from Boys U16 Manager Graham Oram;

The under 16’s boys eagerly awaited first league matches of the season took place on Sunday at Pinner Hill Golf Club with the triangular fixture against BB&O and Middlesex. Last season the under 16’s boys not only won their group but also went on to become the South East Regional Champions.

It was always going to be difficult to repeat that feat, but our young team fought hard and will, I am sure, do so in the next two group fixtures. Middlesex were overcome with relative ease, in a 6.5 – 1.5 victory, but BB&O were, as expected, a far tougher obstacle and one ultimately the boys were unable to overcome. Ben Sessions and Jamie Jackson were to lose keenly contested battles against opponents they competed against in the McGregor Trophy a few days earlier, but wins by Jaego Gardiner, who also played in the McGregor, & the much improved Ronnie Seagroatt levelled the scoreline. With Jaego’s brother River and Eddie Cook suffering reversals (they both secured victories against Middlesex) our hopes for a tied match rested on the final two matches out on the course involving Coby Arazi and Henry Dowsett. It was nail biting time as word was coming back that in both matches fortunes were fluctuating. Could they pull it off?

 Both matches made the journey to the 18th tee, but unfortunately by then they were both dormy one down. Henry did win the last to finish all square but despite Arazi’s best efforts he remained one down. Well done both of you for your fighting qualities and never say die mentality.

A special word about the commitment shown by Ronnie Seagroatt. He asked for permission not to stay for the match meal, which was granted when he explained he needed to catch an evening flight from Luton Airport. Just after 8.00 he was up in sky heading to his holiday destination while several of us were still on our journey home. Well done Ronnie and family for juggling your timetable to enable Ronnie to play. He won both his matches!

And that’s why there are only 7 faces in the team photo!!!
